In another article on this site we have talked about some of the best used cars which are available on today’s market, but it was effectively focused on different types of family car, i.e. superminis, large family models and crossovers.

There was a huge market we didn’t touch upon at all and this is used sports cars. You’d be hard pushed to find many people who wouldn’t like to drive a sports car of some sort, but you’d also be hard pushed to find a lot of people who think that they’d be able to afford one.

Traditional associations made about sports cars are that they cost astronomical amounts of money and guzzle fuel like there’s no tomorrow. Of course in some cases this isn’t too far from the truth but remember not all sports models are Lamborghini Gallardos and Ferrari 458s.

Here are some of the most popular and affordable sports vehicles you can find:

Peugeot RCZ – Peugeot’s entry into the 2-seater coupe market has received much critical acclaim in recent years. Some excellent diesel engines are available which keep fuel costs at reasonable levels, and it boasts a strong layout inside the cabin. You can find second hand Peugeot RCZ models for as little as £10,000.

Audi TT – If you’re looking to spend less than £10,000 then search no further than the Audi TT. It has been around for a long time now but older versions still ooze class and there’s absolutely no question you will have a hell of a time driving one. Go for the 1.8 turbo engine for the ultimate experience – you can pick up well conditioned TTs for just £2,000.

Porsche Boxster -  Undoubtedly one of the most recognisable small sports cars on UK roads, you can buy used Porsche Boxster models for £6,000 if you know where to look. Probably the greatest asset of the Boxster is its unrivalled performance. With engines as large as 3.4 litres coupled with excellent handling, there is no doubt whatsoever that you’ll have a lot of fun on the road.

Toyota GT86 – As it has only been in production for a few years, you  won’t get huge discounts on used Toyota GT86 models, although you can find low mileage cars for a reasonable £16,000. Acceleration and top speed are favourable and it is one of the best looking coupes on the market. You get a decent level of equipment too.
